How It Began
Freedom School began in 2022 with a conversation between two people—Egor, a Ukrainian, and Jack, an American—shared over a game of ping pong and a quiet river ride. What started as a casual exchange sparked something much larger. As Jack traveled across Ukraine in the months that followed, he encountered not just a country in crisis, but a nation fiercely committed to its future.
In Vinnytsia, he visited orphanages housing children displaced from Mariupol. He met families who had lost everything—homes, loved ones, a sense of normalcy. The need for food, shelter, and basic care was overwhelming. But what moved Jack most wasn’t just the hardship. It was the resilience. Again and again, he saw the same spark: a desire not just to survive, but to be free.
Ukrainians weren’t asking only for aid. They were asking for opportunity. They wanted freedom, connection, education—to learn English and join the West. Ukraine Freedom School was born from that inspiration.
