Field Notes From Ukraine

Updated: Apr 30

Today is Monday, and I’m heading to Vinnytsia—our first site supporting the “Anglish” students and teachers at the Hnezko Orphanage.

River in Vinnytsia

As I connect with more and more people in Odessa and Kyiv, the enthusiasm for our mission continues to grow.

Of course, the situation here remains tenuous at best. We all hope for an end to the active warfare, but the roadmap is far from clear, despite what the media may present. Political opinions here span a wide spectrum, and discourse is often heated.

Thanks to Sharon and Kim back in Bisbee, we’ve arranged for some beautiful artwork to be sent to America. I hope to explore more during the coming weeks for further consideration. The pieces will be featured at our upcoming fundraising event, Collateral Kindness, this fall.

In the meantime, while I’m here, I’m interviewing new candidates to join our teaching program, evaluating what’s happening on the ground, and offering support wherever it's needed.

I miss the safety of home, but I am continually inspired by the bravery of the people here—and by the gratitude they’ve shown us, without exception.

More updates soon...
